  • Universal Cart began rolling out in the US across Search and the Gemini app on October 15, 2026, about five months after its May 19 preview.
  • It holds products from multiple retailers, tracks prices and stock, alerts on price drops and restocks, and surfaces card perks via Google Wallet and promo codes.
  • Shoppers pay with Google Pay or move items to the merchant's site, both via the Universal Commerce Protocol; merchants remain seller of record.
  • Named checkout partners include Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair and many Shopify merchants.

Google began rolling out Universal Cart in the US on October 15, 2026, in Search and the Gemini app. Suresh Ganapathy, Senior Director of Product Management for Consumer Shopping, wrote the launch post, according to PPC Land. The rollout came about five months after the May 19 preview, which had targeted a summer launch.

What launched

  • A cart that holds products from multiple retailers and tracks prices and stock, with alerts for price drops and restocks.
  • Google Wallet card perks and promo codes are surfaced in the cart.
  • Shoppers can pay through Google Pay or move items to a merchant’s own site, both via the Universal Commerce Protocol.
  • Google says merchants “will remain the seller of record”.
  • Named checkout partners: Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair and “many Shopify merchants”.

What is missing

YouTube and Gmail, both named in May, are absent without explanation. Compatibility checks and price history shown in May are not mentioned, and autonomous purchasing is absent: the cart saves and alerts, but a person still buys. Canada and Australia were pushed to 2027 in an October 6 Merchant Center update.

Not stated

Usage numbers, merchant counts, merchant fees, promo-code sources, ranking or paid placement rules, whether cart data reaches merchants and whether ads will appear in the cart.

Our read

The cart makes comparison easier for shoppers and harder for merchants who rely on direct loyalty. Keep your price, stock and feed data exact.
