Two announcements in 2026 show how quickly measuring brand presence in AI answers has become a product category.
Profound: $96 million at a $1 billion valuation
On February 24, 2026, Profound announced a $96 million Series C round led by Lightspeed, at a valuation of $1 billion. The company says it has raised more than $155 million in total, and that more than 700 enterprises, including more than 10% of the Fortune 500, use its platform. James Cadwallader is Profound’s chief executive.
Sitecore buys Scrunch
On June 3, 2026, Sitecore announced that it was acquiring Scrunch. Sitecore did not disclose the terms. Bloomberg reported a figure of about $225 million, which CMSWire relayed; we mention it as a press report only. Sitecore says Scrunch’s AXP product serves more than 500 brands and agencies, and that Scrunch will continue as “a Sitecore company”.
What these tools do
Both companies sell software that shows how a brand appears when people ask AI assistants questions, and helps marketers change that. Our explainer covers the practice itself.
Our read
The pattern is familiar from earlier martech categories: venture money funds specialists, and larger suites then buy or imitate them. Adobe’s Semrush deal (covered here) and HubSpot’s built-in tracker (covered here) are the same movement from the suite side. For buyers, the questions are the usual ones. Is the measurement reproducible, given that AI answers change from one query to the next? Is a stand-alone tool worth paying for if the suite gives you a version? And will the vendor still be independent at renewal time?
