Zendesk sells customer service software. According to Wikipedia it was founded in 2007 in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Morten Primdahl, Alexander Aghassipour and Mikkel Svane, and is headquartered in San Francisco. Tom Eggemeier is its chief executive.

Ownership

Zendesk was listed on the New York Stock Exchange as ZEN from 2014 to 2022. Hellman & Friedman and Permira took it private in an all-cash deal of $10.2 billion, announced in June 2022 and completed in November 2022.

What it sells, as the company describes it

  • Customer service software that brings email, phone and social inquiries into one ticketing system, plus help centres.
  • AI agents, a Copilot for service teams, quality assurance, workforce management and a contact centre product, under what it calls its Resolution Platform.
  • Employee service tools for internal support.

Zendesk’s own page says its AI agents can “Automate 80% or more of interactions” and cites more than 1,800 apps in its marketplace; these are vendor claims.

Acquisitions

Wikipedia lists Zopim (2014), BIME Analytics (2015), Base (2018), Smooch (2019), Tymeshift (2023), Klaus (2024), Local Measure, HyperArc and Unleash (2025), and an agreement announced in March 2026 to acquire Forethought.
