Developing
Four AWS regions at launch. A building block for voice agents in customer service and sales.

In 60 seconds
- On October 5, 2026 AWS announced that Amazon Nova 2.5 Sonic is generally available in Amazon Bedrock.
- It offers improved reasoning, instruction following and tool-calling accuracy, with lower latency for real-time conversation.
- It supports expressive voices in seven languages, a 256K context window, mixed voice and text sessions and asynchronous tool calling.
- It runs in US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Europe (Stockholm) and Asia Pacific (Tokyo), at the same price as Nova 2 Sonic.
Impact Layer
- What changed
- A cloud provider's speech-to-speech model got a major upgrade for voice agents that take actions, not only talk.
- Why it matters
- Voice is where customer service and sales automation is moving, and a model that can call tools in a live call reduces the need for scripted phone menus.
- Who is affected
- Developers and CX teams building voice agents, and vendors that resell them.
- Martech stack area
- AI, Customer Experience
- Stack impact
- Test it for accuracy on your own calls, and check data residency against the four regions.
- Business impact
- Moderate Capabilities are AWS's. We saw no benchmarks or customer results.

- What to watch
- Independent latency and accuracy tests, and which contact-centre vendors adopt it.
AWS announced on October 5, 2026 that Amazon Nova 2.5 Sonic, its latest speech-to-speech model for real-time voice agents, is generally available through Amazon Bedrock.
What AWS says it does
- Improved reasoning, instruction following and tool-calling accuracy, with lower latency for more natural interaction.
- Voice agents can keep conversation context, follow multi-step instructions and use connected tools.
- Expressive voices in seven languages, controllable turn-taking, voice and text in the same session, asynchronous tool calling and a 256K context window.
- Integration with Strands Bidi Agents, now generally available, for building production voice agents with little code.
Availability and price
US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Europe (Stockholm) and Asia Pacific (Tokyo), at the same pricing as Nova 2 Sonic. AWS lists customer-service agents, personal assistants and real-time conversational apps as use cases.
Our read
The word to notice is tool calling. A voice agent that can authenticate a caller, update a record or take a payment is useful; one that only talks is a better phone menu. That raises the same questions as any agent that acts: what it may do unattended, how mistakes are caught, and where call data is stored. We saw no benchmarks or customer figures, so test on your own recordings before relying on it.
