Bing Webmaster Tools adds a Topics Portfolio beta showing AI queries where rivals are cited and you are not

Developing

Microsoft calls the numbers "directional signals for planning"; classification is AI-generated and can be imperfect.

In 60 seconds

  • A new beta tab sits next to Citations & Pages in the AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools.
  • It groups grounding queries into topics with Topic Size, Sites Cited and Queries, and lists "opportunity" queries where other sites are cited and yours is not.
  • Opportunity volumes are shown as ranges and the tab appears only "if there is sufficient data".
  • Competitor-branded queries can appear as opportunities, with no filter to remove them.

Microsoft Bing announced Topics Portfolio on October 13, 2026 in a post signed by Krishna Madhavan, Saral Nigam and Vivek Jain, according to PPC Land.

What it is

A beta tab in the AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools, next to Citations & Pages. It groups a site’s grounding queries into AI-classified topics and lists “opportunity” queries where other sites are cited and the site is not.

Metrics (all approximate)

  • Topic Size: total citations across all sites for a topic.
  • Sites Cited: number of sites appearing for the topic’s queries.
  • Queries: number of distinct grounding queries in the topic.
  • Opportunity volumes are shown as ranges.

Availability and caveats

  • Appears only if there is sufficient data, with date windows of one, two or three months and thumbs up or down feedback on each row.
  • Microsoft calls the numbers “directional signals for planning”, and topic classification is AI-generated and can be imperfect.
  • Competitor-branded queries can appear as opportunities, and there is no filter to exclude them.

Not stated

The visibility threshold, how opportunity ranges are bucketed, which model classifies topics, which rival sites are involved (Sites Cited is a count only) and how this differs from Bing’s June 16, 2026 post on topics and citation share.

Our read

Use it as a prompt for content gaps, not as a ranking report. It is data from the search engine itself, which is rare in this field.
