Around June 1, 2026, Salesforce signed a definitive agreement to acquire Contentful, the headless content platform. It announced the deal together with its new marketing agents on June 3, 2026.
What is known
- Salesforce says it expects the transaction to close in the third quarter of its fiscal year 2027, which runs from August to October 2026.
- Salesforce describes the purpose as adding a content layer for Agentforce and for its Headless 360 effort.
- The price was not disclosed in the Salesforce materials we reviewed. We have not repeated figures from other outlets that we could not confirm.
Why a content platform
A headless content platform stores content as structured data and delivers it to any channel by API. That structure makes it easier for AI agents to select and assemble content than if it were locked inside page layouts.
Why it matters
It pulls enterprise content infrastructure into a CRM suite, in competition with Adobe and Sitecore. The practical question for existing Contentful customers is neutrality: we did not find, in the materials we reviewed, a statement on how openness to non-Salesforce systems will be handled.
What happened next
Salesforce's announcement page now says it completed the acquisition on September 1, 2026. Salesforce has not stated a price; see our article on the completion.
