What to watch
Pricing and packaging changes, whether Contentful stays equally open to other CRMs and clouds, and the first Agentforce features built on the content layer.

Salesforce’s announcement page for the Contentful deal now says the acquisition completed on September 1, 2026. Salesforce announced the agreement on June 1, 2026 and our June article described it as not yet closed; this piece updates it.

What Salesforce says it bought

  • Salesforce says Contentful adds a native, enterprise-grade content layer to its Headless 360 effort, connecting customer data with content through composable APIs so that Agentforce can assemble and deliver personalized experiences across channels.
  • Jujhar Singh, president of C360 Applications and Industries at Salesforce, said the content layer completes that picture. Karthik Rau, Contentful’s chief executive, said Contentful’s API-first architecture fits the Salesforce stack.
  • Salesforce’s page emphasizes preserving Contentful’s composability and API-first architecture for developers and digital teams.

What has not been said

Salesforce has not stated the purchase price. A third-party commentary reports estimates of $1.25 billion (Dealroom) and a range of $1 billion to $1.5 billion (The Information); these are unconfirmed. The same commentary notes that neither company has addressed whether Contentful will stay equally open to competing CRMs and clouds, and that deeper Agentforce integration is roadmap only, with no delivery date.

Context from Salesforce’s results

In its second-quarter fiscal 2027 results (quarter ended July 31, 2026), Salesforce said annual recurring revenue from Agentforce exceeded $1.5 billion, up more than 240% year over year, and that Informatica, which it acquired in November 2025, contributed $456 million of revenue in the quarter. The same release said it expected Contentful and another acquisition to close in the coming weeks. Those are Salesforce’s figures.

Our read

The question for existing Contentful customers is not whether the product changes tomorrow; Salesforce’s materials say the platform stays composable. It is whether Contentful remains a neutral layer you can use without Salesforce. Until Salesforce or Contentful says so in writing, treat integrations with non-Salesforce systems as supported today but not guaranteed for the long term, and ask your account team for the commitment in the contract.
