In a Form 8-K signed on October 6, 2026, HubSpot said its board of directors authorized a restructuring plan on October 1, 2026 that eliminates certain roles and affects “approximately 7% of the Company’s workforce”. An update from chief executive Yamini Rangan to employees, filed as an exhibit, puts the number at nearly 660 people.
What the filing says
- HubSpot expects charges of about $65 million to $75 million, mostly future cash costs for severance, notice periods, employee transition and benefits, with most of them in the fourth quarter of 2026. They are excluded from its non-GAAP results and guidance.
- Role eliminations should be substantially complete by the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2027, and substantially all related cash payments are expected by June 30, 2027.
- The company says the plan aims to create a flatter, faster organization focused on customer outcomes. In the same filing it reaffirmed its third-quarter and full-year 2026 guidance for revenue, non-GAAP operating income and non-GAAP earnings per share.
What the memo says
The CEO update says product teams will be organized around customer outcomes rather than hubs, with each team “owning the full customer journey”, fewer management layers and decisions closer to the people doing the work. It states: “This is not driven by AI-related efficiencies” and “This is not simply a cost-cutting exercise.” The severance terms listed are 20 weeks of base pay plus one week per year of service, up to 30 weeks.
Why it matters
This is HubSpot's own account of its reasons, and it is for readers to weigh. For customers, a move from hub-based to outcome-based product teams may change how products are packaged and supported over the next year, so it is reasonable to ask an account contact what changes for your plan.
What happened next
HubSpot expects the role eliminations to be substantially complete by the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2027. The sources reviewed did not describe changes to products or pricing.
