Outcome-based pricing shifts risk to the vendor, but depends on how a "resolution" is defined.

CX Today reports that Zendesk announced its Resolution Platform and an Autonomous Service Workforce at its Relate conference in Denver on May 22, 2026.
What was announced
- An Autonomous Service Workforce: specialized AI agents priced on outcomes rather than interactions.
- A Resolution Platform that unifies data, intelligence, knowledge, workflows and governance.
- CEO Tom Eggemeier: “The era of the chatbot, the era of frustration and deflection, is over.”
In a later announcement, Zendesk introduced commerce-focused industry agents and configurable custom agents that connect to Shopify, Narvar, Stripe and Riskified for returns, refunds and delivery support. Shashi Upadhyay, president of product, engineering and AI, said “The era of generic, one-size-fits-all AI agents is over.”
Our read
Paying per resolved issue sounds fair to the buyer. Its value depends on the definition. A resolution could mean the customer stopped replying, was sent a help article, or got a verified fix. Contracts should say how it is measured, whether the customer can reopen it, and who can audit the count. We read trade summaries, not Zendesk’s own pages.
