Google Analytics adds “Include” filters for hostnames, blocking events with empty hostnames

On September 21, 2026 Google Analytics began supporting data filters that allow only a list of approved hostnames, and automatically block events with empty hostnames, which often signal spam. The Measurement Protocol is unaffected.

Why it matters

Spam and ghost traffic distort conversion rates and campaign reports, and an allowlist is easier to maintain than a blocklist.

OpenAI names 20 measurement partners for ChatGPT Ads and says ChatGPT reaches 1.2 billion people a week

On October 5, 2026 OpenAI listed attribution, data-connection, experiment and brand-study partners for ChatGPT Ads, plus two verification pilots. The early results it cites are vendor-supplied.

Why it matters

Third-party measurement is a prerequisite for large budgets, and incrementality partners can show what the ads added beyond last-click credit.

Amazon Nova 2.5 Sonic is generally available for real-time voice agents

On October 5, 2026 AWS made Nova 2.5 Sonic generally available in Amazon Bedrock: a speech-to-speech model with better reasoning and tool calling, seven languages, a 256K context window and the same price as Nova 2 Sonic.

Why it matters

Voice is where customer service and sales automation is moving, and a model that can call tools in a live call reduces the need for scripted phone menus.

Why it matters

A stronger model tends to reach the assistants and workflow tools marketers use within months, and its security focus signals how Google plans to gate powerful models.

Advertising

Microsoft Advertising drops Max CPC from new campaigns, and ChatGPT Ads defaults to automated bidding

From October 1, 2026 advertisers can no longer set a Max CPC on new non-portfolio Microsoft campaigns that use conversion-focused or maximize-clicks bidding. Existing campaigns keep it, until it is removed.

Why it matters

Without a cap, automated bidding decides how high to bid, which can raise cost per click even if cost per acquisition targets are met.

Google retires standalone Display campaigns and moves the Display Network into Demand Gen

Google announced on May 26, 2026 that Display inventory will be managed through Demand Gen. A migration tool arrived in June, new standalone Display campaigns end in 2027, and the rest migrate automatically.

Why it matters

Display budgets will be run with Demand Gen's settings and reporting, so existing placement and audience controls need to be rebuilt and tested.

FTC and 22 states sue Amazon, alleging hidden surcharges in its sponsored-ads auctions

On August 31, 2026 the FTC and 22 state attorneys general sued Amazon, alleging it secretly added surcharges to its search-ad auctions while telling advertisers they paid only slightly more than the runner-up.

MarTech Roundup Editorial 2 min

Why it matters

If the claims hold, advertisers' reported costs and return on ad spend on Amazon were overstated by the price mechanics, which affects every budget decision built on them.

Why it matters

Documentation changes are the official statement of what markup and features Google supports, and they often precede visible changes.
