Why it matters

Advertisers can now reach third-party app inventory from the same interface, with TikTok's targeting but without TikTok's feed context.

Why it matters

Heavy political buying fills local TV and CTV inventory ahead of November 3, which affects rates and availability for commercial advertisers.

WARC raises its 2026 global ad spend forecast to $1.343 trillion, with social media up 21.3%

WARC Media's Q3 2026 forecast, released October 8, puts global advertising at $1,343.0 billion in 2026, up 11.9%, with social, search and retail media taking 66.4% of spend. It had forecast 8.9% growth in June.

Why it matters

The forecast shows spend concentrating in three channels and three companies, which limits where growth in other channels can come from.

OpenAI adds visual ads to ChatGPT image generation, while TrafficGuard finds up to 34% invalid clicks in some campaigns

OpenAI said it will test visual ads that appear during image generation in the US later in October 2026, and added conversion data connectors. TrafficGuard's three-week sample of 47 advertisers found invalid-click rates from 0.1% to 34%.

Why it matters

A new ad channel is already attracting automated clicks, so advertisers need their own invalid-traffic checks from the start.

Google Ads’ August 17 bidding change pulls budget-limited campaigns back toward their target CPA and ROAS

Since August 17, 2026 budget-limited campaigns using Target CPA or Target ROAS that beat their targets are nudged back toward them. PPC Land sets out what Google said, what advertisers report and what remains unproven.

Why it matters

A campaign with a 200% target that ran near 400% may now spend its budget at lower returns, which changes how reported ROAS should be read.

Microsoft Advertising drops Max CPC from new campaigns, and ChatGPT Ads defaults to automated bidding

From October 1, 2026 advertisers can no longer set a Max CPC on new non-portfolio Microsoft campaigns that use conversion-focused or maximize-clicks bidding. Existing campaigns keep it, until it is removed.

Why it matters

Without a cap, automated bidding decides how high to bid, which can raise cost per click even if cost per acquisition targets are met.

Google retires standalone Display campaigns and moves the Display Network into Demand Gen

Google announced on May 26, 2026 that Display inventory will be managed through Demand Gen. A migration tool arrived in June, new standalone Display campaigns end in 2027, and the rest migrate automatically.

Why it matters

Display budgets will be run with Demand Gen's settings and reporting, so existing placement and audience controls need to be rebuilt and tested.

Why it matters

Defaults that allow write actions can let an AI tool change budgets unless a buyer restricts them.
