On May 27, 2025, Salesforce announced an agreement to acquire Informatica for $25 in cash per share, which it put at an equity value of about $8 billion, net of Salesforce’s existing investment in Informatica.
The rationale
- Salesforce said it would combine Informatica’s data catalog, integration, governance, quality, privacy and master data management capabilities with its own platform to create a unified architecture for agentic AI.
- The announcement quoted Marc Benioff, Amit Walia (Informatica’s chief executive), Steve Fisher, Robin Washington and Informatica chairman Bruce Chizen.
- Closing was expected early in Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027, subject to regulatory clearances.
The completion
Salesforce announced on November 18, 2025 that it had completed the acquisition. Benioff said data and context are the fuel of Agentforce and that without clean, connected, trusted data there is no intelligence. Salesforce said it would integrate Informatica’s technology stack into its ecosystem while Informatica continued to support partners.
Why it matters
Agents act on whatever data they are given, so vendors with agent products now want to own the data-quality and governance layer too. For marketers it is a signal that data management is becoming part of the same purchase as the CRM and the agents.
What happened next
The acquisition completed on November 18, 2025. Pricing and packaging for Informatica customers inside Salesforce had not been described in the sources reviewed.
