On October 15, 2026 Google began rolling out Universal Cart in the US in Search and the Gemini app, about five months after its May 19 preview. The cart holds products from multiple retailers, tracks prices and stock, alerts on price drops and restocks, and surfaces Google Wallet card perks and promo codes. Shoppers pay with Google Pay or move items to a merchant’s site, both through the Universal Commerce Protocol, and Google says merchants “will remain the seller of record”.
Partners and gaps
Named checkout partners include Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair and many Shopify merchants. YouTube and Gmail, named in May, are absent, and Canada and Australia were pushed to 2027. Google gave no usage numbers, merchant fees or ranking rules.
Why it matters
This is our analysis. A shared cart moves part of the shopping journey onto Google surfaces. Merchants need accurate prices, stock and feeds, and should ask how cart data and attribution will reach them.
What happened next
Google has not said when YouTube support will arrive or whether ads will appear in the cart.
