The Trade Desk launched Kokai on June 6, 2023 as a new approach to digital advertising that incorporates advances in distributed AI, measurement, partner integrations and a redesigned user experience.

What it does, according to the launch coverage

  • It distributes deep-learning algorithms throughout the media-buying process, drawing on access to more than 13 million advertising impressions per second.
  • Functions include predictive clearing (bidding at the right level), scoring each ad impression for relevance to the advertiser, forecasting and KPI scoring, budget optimization and resilience when identifiers are missing.
  • It builds on Koa, the AI The Trade Desk launched in 2018, which helped set up campaigns from business objectives and optimized them. Kokai spreads that capability across more of the buying process.

Later developments

Wikipedia reports a “Deal Desk” added to Kokai for direct publisher and advertiser management. Industry trade press has also reported on the company moving advertisers onto Kokai; see the sources.
