Google’s help page describes Merchant Center as a free tool that helps shoppers on Google find and buy a merchant’s products. Merchants upload and manage product data, which lets products “appear across Google Search, Maps, YouTube and more, for free”.

What it covers

  • Product data: added automatically through an online store during sign-up, or uploaded manually.
  • Business profile: store name, hours and services, applied across Merchant Center tools.
  • Checkout options: online, in a physical store or both.
  • Platform links: a platform such as Shopify can be linked to sync products.

Account rules (as stated)

Each Google Account email can be used for one Merchant Center account, the country chosen at set-up cannot be changed later, and a single user can be added to at most 100 accounts.

Recent changes

In October 2026 Google edited its low-image-quality page to say affected products “will continue to show in ads and free listings”, while the 500 x 500 pixel minimum is enforced from January 31, 2027, and added a table of expected fast-shipping delivery days for eight countries. Google’s Universal Cart, launched in the US on October 15, 2026, uses merchant product data.
