Lumen study of 270 cross-media campaigns: a median 47 seconds of cumulative attention is needed for purchase intent

Developing

Only the 47-second threshold is public on Lumen's page; the other claims come from a Meta executive's LinkedIn summary.

In 60 seconds

  • Lumen Research, Amazon Ads and Cint analysed 270 cross-media campaigns; the median cumulative attention needed for purchase intent was 47 seconds.
  • A Meta planning director's summary says cumulative attention predicted brand lift about eight times better than raw exposure counts.
  • The same summary says streaming TV followed by online ads gave 30% more brand lift than the reverse order.
  • The white paper is gated, and markets, dates, media mix and measurement method are undisclosed.

Impact Layer

What changed
Attention is being tied to a number of seconds per outcome, not just a viewability or exposure count.
Why it matters
If attention thresholds hold, frequency and reach plans could be judged by cumulative seconds looked at, not impressions served.
Who is affected
Media planners, brand measurement teams and agencies buying on attention metrics.

Stack impact
Ask vendors how attention is measured (observed, predicted or blended) and treat the 47-second figure as a median for one set of campaigns, not a target.
Business impact
Low PPC Land relays a LinkedIn summary by Meta's Peter Buckley; Lumen's public page has no date and the full paper is available only through Amazon representatives. All campaigns appear to include Amazon as a media partner.
What to watch
A published methodology and replication on non-Amazon campaigns.

PPC Land reported on October 13, 2026 on a Lumen Research study of 270 cross-media campaigns, produced with Amazon Ads and Cint.

What is public

Lumen’s page states: “The study found a median of 47 seconds of Cumulative Attention is needed for purchase intent.” It is the only one of five brand metrics (recall, awareness, consideration, favourability, purchase intent) with a threshold published.

Extra claims from a LinkedIn summary

Peter Buckley, Connection Planning Director at Meta, posted a summary the same day. His claims, not on Lumen’s page:

  • Cumulative attention predicted brand lift about eight times better than raw exposure counts.
  • Streaming TV followed by online ads produced 30% more brand lift than the reverse order.
  • About a quarter of the highest-attention campaigns showed no purchase intent lift.

Gaps

The markets, campaign dates and media mix; how attention was measured; the spread around the median; and whether creative quality, not attention, drives the results, a question raised by Rares Rusu of 40Folds. All campaigns appear to have used Amazon as a media partner.

Our read

A single median is a prompt to test, not a plan. Ask how any attention vendor defines and validates its numbers.
