  • The program is for platforms that mainly host user-generated content, such as forums and social networks.
  • Eligibility includes dedicated pages with stable URLs, public viewing by Googlebot, OAuth 2.0 authentication, valid JSON-LD (SocialMediaPosting or DiscussionForumPosting) and engagement counters updated within 72 hours.
  • Applicants should hear back within 6 to 8 weeks.
  • Google says the pipeline is independent of the Indexing API and does not guarantee appearance in Search.

What to watch
Which platforms are approved, and any change in how UGC is surfaced.

Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable reported on October 8, 2026 that Google announced the UGC Fresh Data Program on its Search updates page. Google describes it as “an initiative designed to help platforms display fresh, high quality, and authentic user-generated content (UGC)” across Search features.

How it works

Approved platforms use a dedicated data ingestion pipeline to send content and interaction signals to Google. Google says it is “independent of the Google Indexing API and traditional organic crawling” and “doesn’t guarantee that content will appear in Search”.

Eligibility

  • Mainly UGC, social posts or forum discussions on dedicated pages with stable URLs, with high UGC volume and a significant user base.
  • Content publicly viewable by Googlebot and users, tied to creators with public profiles; no gated content.
  • Secure OAuth 2.0 API authentication and strictly validated JSON-LD, such as SocialMediaPosting or DiscussionForumPosting with interactionStatistic.
  • Active moderation and a user reporting mechanism; content submitted within minutes and engagement counters updated within 72 hours.

Platforms apply through a Google form and should hear back in 6 to 8 weeks. Documentation is shared only after acceptance.

Timings reported second-hand

PPC Land cites an attendee recap of a Gary Illyes talk: discovery of a new URL takes about 20 hours and a refresh of a known URL about 30 days.

For most sites this is background, but it explains why forum threads can appear quickly. Publishers competing with UGC should expect fresher forum results from approved platforms.
