On September 12, 2024, Salesforce unveiled Agentforce in a press release titled “Salesforce Unveils Agentforce: What AI Was Meant to Be”. It described a suite of autonomous AI agents that can handle tasks in service, sales, marketing and commerce, built on what it called the Atlas Reasoning Engine.
What was announced
- Agentforce agents for service and sales were due to be generally available on October 25, 2024, with pricing starting at $2 per conversation.
- Chief executive Marc Benioff said the company’s aim was to “empower one billion agents with Agentforce by the end of 2025”.
Why it matters
It marked the point where a major CRM vendor made agents, not assistants, the center of its product strategy, and it introduced per-conversation pricing as a way to charge for AI work. Most martech vendors have since followed with their own agents and outcome-based prices.
What happened next
Salesforce extended Agentforce to marketing in June 2026, with agents such as Piper and Hunter generally available and Content Agent and Marketing Goals Agent in pilot (see our coverage).
