In 60 seconds

  • Google says advertisers who build data strength with Google tag gateway see "over 20% conversion uplift in Demand Gen campaigns" on average, from an internal analysis.
  • A Data Strength Uplift metric is launching in Google Ads; Data Manager expands to Display & Video 360 and Google Analytics.
  • The Zebra reports a 16% rise in conversion volume and 19% in conversion value, with no window or baseline.
  • September's 14% tag gateway figure was dropped from the October post.

Impact Layer

What changed
Google is promoting measurement set-up as a performance lever and adding a metric to estimate its effect.
Why it matters
Better signal can raise reported conversions without raising sales, so teams need to separate measurement gains from real demand.
Who is affected
Performance marketers running Demand Gen and teams responsible for tagging and conversion data.

Stack impact
Check your tag gateway, CRM link through Data Manager and enhanced conversions set-up, and compare incrementality tests before treating uplift as sales.
Business impact

What to watch
Rollout dates for the uplift metric and for enhanced conversions in DV360 and Google Analytics.

Google’s Ads & Commerce Blog post “Build your data strength with October’s Demand Gen drop” claims that advertisers who build data strength with Google tag gateway see “over 20% conversion uplift in Demand Gen campaigns” on average, attributed to “an internal analysis”. PPC Land reported it on October 13, 2026.

Product items

  • Data Strength Uplift metric: launching in Google Ads. It estimates conversion gains from an advertiser’s data set-up and Google calculates it.
  • Data Manager: expanding to Display & Video 360 and Google Analytics.
  • Enhanced conversions: described as coming “soon” to DV360 and Google Analytics, with no date.

Customer example

Insurance platform The Zebra reported a 16% increase in conversion volume and a 19% increase in conversion value. No time window, baseline or set-up details were given.

Context

Most items restate September 10 announcements. The October post drops the 14% average tag gateway figure from September and keeps only the 20%+ Demand Gen figure. In an October 1 podcast, Google product manager Alejandro Osio said data strength has three parts: tag gateway, a CRM linked through Data Manager and enhanced conversions, and called $100 a day the floor for a Demand Gen campaign.

Caveats

The uplift metric counts conversions that were previously unmeasured, so neither the 20% nor The Zebra’s figures separate better measurement from better bidding or real demand growth.

Our read

Fixing tags is good practice. Validate any “uplift” with a holdout or incrementality test.
